Well, something caused the problem. :) Hopefully just bumping-up to the new
version of rdiff-backup was the fix as I loathe to bugger-around much with the
100G mirror I'm using. Probably I went down the wrong path with the
644-modded directories anyway and something else was really the problem.
Also, I didn't realize that rdiff-backup did a chmod on directories on a
mirror.
