Hi Felix,

So, you think that 5 minutes for rdiff-backup'ing a small incremental of a 7 GB file system won't be possible in the near future?

Well, I hate to say it but this has been a well-known issue for at least six months and nothing has happened yet. If I knew Python and I was a bit more motivated I would fix it myself.

The problem is: I don't want to back up directly to the Internet. I'd like to be able to quickly back up to the LinkStation, and then the LinkStation should take care of backing up to a server on the Internet. I doubt that this two stage backup process is feasible with BoxBackup, but to be honest: Thus far, I've never backed up more than a couple of MB to a server on the Internet, so I've close to no experience in this area.

Well, you could use Box Backup in a couple of ways: box your machine to the LinkStation, and rsync out to the Internet, or rsync to the LinkStation and Box out to the Internet. I think the latter would be more bandwidth efficient, and possibly easier on the LinkStation, but you'd have to measure it to be sure.

At least every two months I want to create a full dump, no matter which
tool I use, better every month.

I'm afraid Box can't do that yet. It's planned for version 0.20, but there's no timescale yet.

Of course, I'd only include important data which totals at about 3GB. Important data, in my case, includes almost all the data (except emails) that I authored, including my first Basic programs created more than 15 years ago.

I have similar requirements, but also my photos, which take about 20 GB (soon to be 40 when I get back from Ghana).

Sorry that neither Box nor rdiff-backup will meet your needs right now. Perhaps you are better off with star.

Cheers, Chris.
