No, I'm using OpenSSH now, and IIRC I also used it for the initial rdiff
dump.  Before OpenSSH, I had dropbear running on the box, but it
performed very bad.

I'm not using nfs nor smb.

With "star" the increments can be as small as one wants them to be.
There is a difference in backup strategy though, and with "star" one
generally takes the more traditional approach of different dump levels
(monthly, weekly, daily, hourly, etc.).
