[rdiff-backup-users] Any 2GB limits lurking?

Hi,

I know that Pre-2.4 Linux kernels suffer from a 2GB file size limit. I have also found that the tar command has this problem too even with a new kernel.

Are there any circumstances (compression etc) where rdiff also suffers this same limitation that are not obvious. I spent more time than I would have liked trying to persuade tar to go above 2GB archive files to backup my local machines with 2.4 kernels + XFS filesystems. It wouldn't. I gave up. (Apparently it can't be fixed without breaking backward compatibility.)

I intend to use it to back up remote web servers. All the remote servers have 2.2 Linux kernels (Cobalt RAQ3/4s) but one will have a 2.4 kernel (RH7.3+). The local machine will have a 2.4 kernel (MDK 9.0).

Regards,
Simon B.
