Yes.... and just to be sure I followed your advice and started from scratch a
second time. see below but I think that it must be a server cookie error......
It is unclear whether the red text about cookies is an error message or just a
caution (i.e. nothing specifically told me "can't get there from here because
cookies not enabled")

> What error messages?

I open the setup page and write the config. Then it sends me back to the
login... then I login and click the continue button and I get the setup page
and click the continue button and it takes me back to the login..... i.e. I
can't get past the setup page.

In any event, it appears that I am successfully creating the database but not
creating any tables. I went in to mysql via the webmin interface and it lloked
like passwords were not being set, so I set passwords manually and could get to
step 2 but then things would crater at step 2 so I deleted everything and
started again.

I do get at the top of the log in and at the top of the set up page the note in
red that cookies must be enabled. The browser has cookies enabled. The server
has mod_usertrack installed but I think may not be doing cookies as I set the
browser to ask and it didn't...... webmin is running and I am being asked to
set a cookie for webmin..... so I don;t understand why I am not being asked to
set a cookie for the groupware setup page...... I added a directive to turn
cookies on in the httpd.conf file but am not sure if its in the correct place
as it seemed to have no effect......

I tried set up both with Konqueror and mozilla

The reason I mentioned this is because SCO linux seems to be based on SuSE 9.x
(in fact the httpd conf directory contains the SuSE config files.....) and the
server comes preconfigured to do quite a few things that aren't clearly
documented

we are using the php that ships with the OS. It is 4.x but I am not at the
system and am not sure of the minor version number, but it was the last version
of SCO linux that shipped (probably a year old.)

Maybe I erred in the username for the setup page. I logged in as phpgw and
provided all the pertinent info . That's correct isn;t it.... when you say
"give the root login" you mean in the web-based config page, right, not in the
login screen....?

I also noted that there is no "files " directory structure in the phpgroupware
directory and the howto is unclear as to how that has to be set up if one
doesn;t exist..... (i.e. how does phpgroupware know where to look for the
files directory?)

Of course part of the problem here is that since the OS comes with all this
stuff already loaded it is a bit doffocult to know whats what. But, if the red
ink regarding cookies is not supposed to be there, then my guess is that its
something that has to be configured in the httpd.conf file and I could use some
suggestions as to what directives to stick where.....

I am sure that this is something incredible simple, but I am stuck.
