If you want something really minimal, you could try a Graupner MX-20
transmitter.
Mikrokopter did it and you could rip it off fairly easily.

Telemetry directly on the transmitter screen, although you'd need to write
some code.

I believe the GCS gets the flightplan from the XML file, hence the MD5sum
check to make sure the GCS & AP are on the same flightplan.
