Follow-up Comment #7, bug #61696 (project octave): I tested with a version of Octave 8 from early December that I still had lying around (hg id bae2381fb80a). With it, the color limits don't change in Pantxo's example. I tested with 100 and 200 points (not that it should make a difference in that version). Both worked correctly for me. Octave 8 and Octave 7 don't differ in that respect currently afaict. So, I'd guess that this will also be fixed in Octave 7.
