Follow-up Comment #27, bug #56952 (project octave): OK. The crash recorded in the stack trace from comment #25 looks much the same as the one I've seen before with the GUI thread calling QtHandles::qt_graphics_toolkit::create_object through a signal/slot connection but this time, the interpreter thread hasn't finished executing the --eval option code.
