Follow-up Comment #3, bug #57644 (project octave):

File system is NTFS

Tried all latest versions including the "large data" W64_64 but they are all
configured for "x86_64_64-mingw32". As they are installers I don't recall any
option for 64 just an option for OpenBLAS. 

Version downloaded from ftp, while launching octave-cli.5.1.0 in the mingw64
directory, curiously Octave was configured for "x86_64-mingw32"

I suspect this is the root cause issue in the adressing large files.
