Follow-up Comment #2, bug #57635 (project octave):

I have the undocked editor pane usually on a second monitor, that's the layout
when Octave starts here.
It's when I do s/th like "edit <function>" or "edit <function>.m" that I often
see that the editor has focus but no cursor response.
AFAIR the nr. of editor tabs makes no difference, IIRC it already happens with
just one tab.

Oh to be complete (maybe it matters): I usually close the default empty tab
when Octave starts, I don't like the bright white pane staring at me when
there's nothing to edit, I find the empty gray pane less obtrusive.
And I also often have private functions in other tabs, maybe that matters as
well?

As I wrote, it's hard to pinpoint a reliable way to reproduce the bug.
