Re: [monit] Re: Monitoring with ICMP

From: Adam Nielsen

User-agent: Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 (X11/20091130)

I can see this in the output of 'monit -vI' using 1.2.3.4 as a test IP with no connectivity.

'1.2.3.4' icmp ping succeeded [response time 0.000s]

# ping 1.2.3.4 -c 5
PING 1.2.3.4 (1.2.3.4) 56(84) bytes of data.

--- 1.2.3.4 ping statistics ---
5 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 4012ms

I see this on two other debian servers also running the same version of monit.

FWIW I'm running monit 5.0.3 and it seems to work for me:

---------------
ICMP failed Service 1.2.3.4

        Date: Tue, 23 Mar 2010 08:33:28 +1000
        Action: alert
        Host: myserver
Description: failed ICMP test [Echo Request]

Your faithful employee,
monit
---------------

Nothing about this appeared in the output of 'monit -vI' though, and it took a few minutes for the e-mail to be sent after loading monit.

Cheers,
Adam.
