I think your problem was from going from rpm to source to install a
program.
rpm based systems get confused when you do that. The replace files
option will
let the rpm version overwrite the newer files.

What is exactly the difference between the --replacefiles and -Fvh in
this case?
I guess this would be a little bit OFF TOPIC
