well for bittorrent downloads you can request the temp file to be deleted
after successfull commit
so once the download is finished and commit completed you don't use twice
the size BUT during commit it requires the free space to store the commit
data before removing the temp file..
so basicaly you don't need twice the download size for a long time if you
delete the temp file after commit.. but if during commit your hdd is full
then the files are not extracted properly so you don't have you downloaded
files and the temp file is moved to incoming or something like that and the
file download information is removed from your ini so there's no way you can
start the commit process again by placing the temp file back to your temp
directory.. it will just start the download all over again !
So when i had this problem once i had to manually cut all the files out of
the temp file using an ex editor.. i was lucky the dowload only had rar
files in it..

What's the reason for MLdonkey to copy the temporary file to the finished
one when committing? Why isn't it moved to the commit location and renamed?
That way we do not need twice the HD space and the committing will take a
lot less time.

well if i'm not mistaking that's how the windows version of bittorrent
works..

it will not create a single temp file but will directly create all the files
contained in the torrent your are starting to download.. the files
information being described in the seed file you can easily do that..
that way all 2G+ downloads having multiple archive files in it would never
make any 2G+ prob..

and that would also solve a "problem" i had with mld bittorrent downloads
which is you need twice the download size of free space on your hd, one time
for the temp file, one time for the extracted files once the download is
finished.. it's not that bad when you download cd size archives but when you
go over 2G it's quite annoying..
