`less` was a major improvement of `more` at a time when `more` was being
maintained by someone at Berkeley who wasn't interested in UI
improvements.  Its tagline 'less is more' is more or less snarky...

Later, apparently someone else took over `more` maintenance and added
many of the same features (perhaps they didn't like the licensing of
`less`, or weren't willing to ship the extra bytes, or just 'not
invented here').

L still has many complex features above M, but these are not relevant to
typical people who just want to page through a file.

(whether to exit at the end of the file is a flag [-e] in `less`;
per-system defaults might vary)
