With Lynx 2.8.4dev.7(slang), on Solaris 2.6, I see:
        ftp://ftp.rahul.net/pub/dkaufman/www/testfile

This is line 1.

This is line 2.

This is line 3.

        http://www.rahul.net/dkaufman/testfile

This is line 1.
This is line 2.
This is line 3.

So the stream that is fed to Lynx's rendering engine is not exactly the same.
