It _was_. The environment variable to use is $SCREENCAP, not
$TERMCAP. Screen places whatever is in $SCREENCAP into the
$TERMCAP of a window screen opens (duh, of course it has to

Yes, and whatever others may say "kP=\E[5~" is plain wrong for any keyboard
that isn't shorted out.
I am extremely grateful to you Klaus for your, as always, unprejudiced and
exacting analysis. Thank you for demanding more. My six-key-pad now works
for the first time ever.
