I don't either, but as you've probably gathered from my other
posts, my motto is pretty much "if it works, let it be."

Anyway, I don't believe most has anything to do with the
naming of the file.  Again, the .mailcap file in that account
has the line: "text/x-archive; /usr/bin/most +s -k %s", which
                                                   ^^
means (to me) that lynx (or gzip, which has the file immediately
before most) is passing a file by that name to most.  The status
line (2nd from bottom, reverse display) in most reads:
"-- MOST: /home0/guest/.hog                                  (1,1) 
0%------------"
