My opinion: it would nice to have a user supplied checksumming routine,
as a callback function, not an "lwipopt".

Listing this as a device capability looks nice,
but isn't a requirement to get it working or
it won't be of much use I guess.

I'm unsure where to locate this in the stack.
The netif can be used, but I dislike the idea
of extra pbuf status flags.

I can imagine one would use NIOS (to run lwip) or other FPGA based
processing
to speed up the checksum calculations. AFAIK Altera and Xilinx did some
lwip porting, maybe this would be a nice feature for them.

I agree the original idea coined by EVS looks rather crude,
and I doubt if it works.
