That is helpful information. I had the same problem but on a openSUSE 12.3
system with the git version of Linphone (instead of 3.6.1). On openSUSE, the
package "libasound2-dev" is called "alsa-devel" instead.
It would be nice if "./configure" checked and possibly output a message that
these header files are missing.
Thanks!

Does anyone know when Linphone 3.6 will be ported to Debian/Ubuntu Linux?
I'd like to deploy it over a lot of Ubuntu Servers at once, which isn't
really practical to do if I have to compile it all from source every time.
I've had a lot of issues with the linphonecsh daemon hanging in Linphone
3.5, and I was hoping an upgrade might help.

There are old versions in Ubuntu repository:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=linphone
I am waiting official build for ubuntu too. I suppose it will be in official PPA?:

Hello,
I am one of the maintainers of the Linphone PPA. I have not packaged
version 3.6 because the Debian VOIP Team
<http://wiki.debian.org/Teams/VoIP>, of
which I am not a part, started packaging Linphone for Debian. Their
packages eventually propagate to Ubuntu and render our PPA less relevant.
If you have an urgent need for the latest version, you can use the official
Debian package (or one from our PPA) to generate a binary package for
version 3.6. I would be happy to answer questions to that regard, if you
have packaging experience.
In addition, I will consider packaging 3.6 for the people on this list, if
there is overwhelming demand or a good reason (such as security) why people
must move to the new version immediately.
Felix

Not in my repository, certainly...The latest I can find is version 3.5.2-10:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linphone
<https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linphone> I
haven't seen any higher versions.
