Hello.
I asked my colleagues about it.
-->> I am referring to multicast as in sharing a audio/video/text from one machine to a selected few machines which are in the same network which is configured by a mutlicast group IP addrress. For example, 10 machines are connected to the same multicast group IP and machine 4 wants to send a prerecorded audio file or make a voice call with machines 1, 2, 3, 6, 8 in the network or may be even with all remaining machines.
This seems possible with SIP multicast calls and the Linphone
player (for a pre-recorded file), as "live" video/audio file we
support video/audio input as in hardware. So I believe that you
could create a call with a custom input source (if you use a third
party software to create a virtual source).
However, performance-wise, you wouldn't be able to use multicast with more than 3-4 devices.
Sorry, I don't have the technical knowledge to help you more on
this part on the code, but you can check our docs here and
our tutorials there.
I am using Linux UBUNTU 16.04. And right now I am trying to compile the Linphone SDK on the same but facing compilation issues when I tried with the CMAKE compilation steps that are given in the linphone support pages. Highly appreciate if you could share the compilation steps for Ubuntu !!Currently, the build is passing on Ubuntu 18.04 on CI with basic options. I didn't test with 16.04.
Our Ubuntu 18.04 Dockerfile can give you some hints about the needed dependencies. Please check it and retry. If you still have build errors, please attach the full build log with build options (I would give it a look).
By streaming, I mean broadcasting or multicasting a prerecorded or a live audio/video file. The file format support can be mp3/mp4 for example.
Overall, I think that the way to go would be to use a "streaming" server, to better scale and to have better performance.
As of now, we are focusing on video-conference, so we might consider implementing streaming features on the Flexisip server suite in mid-next year.
If you want to fund this feature, you can fill our Typeform here (click on "Contact Us"). This way, we could prioritize this development.
Thanks for you interest in Linphone.

Currently you can create audio conferences in Linphone. We are developing video conference and this should be available early next year.
