You surely don't need MacTeX (nor any other TeX distribution) to
install and run Frescobaldi.
Why do you think you need to install it?

I was attempting to install Fresdcobaldi with Lilypond.  All I can tell you is that running a brew install frescobaldi told me I needed MacTeX.
