N.B. in Kubuntu you can't directly access root -- so type,
sudo sh lily
... and press the tab key. The complete command should then look
something like,
sudo sh lilypond-2.10.33-1.linux-x86.sh
Alternatively, load up Konsole and look for a little icon in the bottom
left looking like the sun and clouds. Click on it and hold down the
mouse button. You'll get a little menu which has an option 'Root shell'
-- select that and enter your password as requested. Then do everything
as Mats has indicated.
