It turns out that LaissezVibrer ties do not have their Y-extents relative to their note-heads, so I cannot use a constant (0 . 0) as their core (before their direction is known) because this reserves space at the wrong height in the staff.

I tried looking up the Y-extent of the head, via tie.cc, but I cannot navigate the Scheme-C++ interfaces.

Setting cross-staff==##t, on the other had, reserves space at the /correct/ height in the staff. If anyone can explain how that works, let's use it.
