http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=2506<https://blogs.apache.org/OOo/entry/native_svg_support_for_apache> could be relevant. This concerns Apache OpenOffice 3.4. I have no idea what the respective status for LibreOffice would be like. Since one of the key motivations apparently was to get rid of GPLed/LGPLed libraries, the motivation for LibreOffice might be quite weaker, and in the past, there was also little interest/concern about the "freely scalable" bit which apparently was considered more as a side benefit even in OpenOffice.
Either way, might be a better basis for experimenting with scalable graphics inclusion and export than what I had available last year.
