Is this too advanced for the new user?

   [1]https://www.wikihow.com/Install-Debian

It is a guide for someone who has a windows computer that is installing
   Debian over it.

There is also this e-book / handbook

Sometimes people might find the task of making a bootable USB drive or
CD or DVD a bit too dificult. In that case you could also point them at
   vendors of installation media.

There is Free Software that can run on any platform. A good starting
point is to run something like Spacemacs or Emacs, Firefox,
Thunderbird, and VLC are all great.

I hope that helps you and the BPL patron out.

A Librarian at Boston Public Library asked, for a BPL Library User,

"How do you install Free Software?"

Searching online didn't readily turn up easy to understand

       information for novice computer users!
