I am running them on a 2.8GHz dual-core Intel Core i7 based MacBook Pro with 8GB RAM.

The PowerPC based system I have runs Linux and seeing that it took slightly over 7 hours to run "install.sh -plain -bootstrap"   I would not even think about running tests on that system.

Tests takes almost 12 hours on et.liberty-eiffel.org which is a single core reasonably good x86-64 which is quite faster than any PowerPC used on older macs.
I wouldn't be surprised at all it will keep your machine busy for a couple of days. We got *several* tests which are tried with several assertion levels
