IRC channel: Does anyone frequent it?  I logged on today (Sunday) and
was the only one on, but I wonder whether it's different during the week.

We don't have a lot of time and there are too few of us. That and stupid office policies... :-/

History: The intro page mentions "the true Eiffel language" a couple of
times.  Is there some document that details what that is, at least at a
high level?  Does it mean _Eiffel: The Language_ (1992), everything in
"standard Eiffel" (as apparently maintained by Bertrand Meyer in a
"ETL3" page--according to Wikipedia), but prior to ECMA-367, or
something in between?  I'm not that interested in nitty-gritty details
but rather the major points of contention.

The "true" language is what Bertrand Meyer proposed at the beginning of Eiffel: a language that could be learned in a few days. I am not sure that is true anymore, even for Liberty Eiffel.

The main differences between ECMA / ISE and Liberty Eiffel are:

• The biggest sore point is agents conformance. Based on this paper: http://www.jot.fm/issues/issue_2004_04/article7
• Non-conformant inheritance syntax: ISE uses inherit {NONE} while Liberty Eiffel uses insert
• Newer keywords such as attached, detached, across though some or all may be implemented later
• Conversion and the TYPE class, but I intend to implement that -- some day... (https://savannah.gnu.org/task/?12660)
• Liberty Eiffel's specific operators ?:= and ::= -- I don't know what ISE's equivalents are (maybe based on some TYPE features and conversion?)
• SCOOP is not supported
• TUPLE with named attributes is not supported
• Different libraries
• Liberty Eiffel does not provide an IDE; but there is an emacs mode :-)
