Thanks, that has sorted that problem, but I am still getting a
"Connection Closed"
There is nothing in /var/log/warn but /var/log/messages now reports,
Linux jk_chrootsh[5345]: now entering jail /home/jail for user mike
(1003)

I'm not sure where to look now, the documentation says there should be a
auth.log and daemon.log in /var/log but I do not have these. Can you
advise where I need to be looking and what could be wrong here?
