Nope. We are on linux. The server is on a Sun machine.

I have changed to: ALL echo error : %s is editing the file.
There must be a white space betweed error and ":".
% csv edit file.txt
user1 is editing the file. Please "cvs unedit <thefile>".
cvs edit: dying gasps from guinness unexpected
Is there a keyword other than "error :" I can use to make it less
distressing?
