I don't think so. Just provide the data, it works well for me,
but perhaps you want to use 'cor' instead of 'cov'.

L1 <- runif(100)
L2 <- runif(100)
cor(L1, L2, method="kendall")
cor(L1, L1*2+2, method="kendall")
cor(L1, -L1/2-3, method="kendall")
