The log says:
> pkg install -forge fits
Package cfitsio was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `cfitsio.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'cfitsio' found

So do you have the cfitsio development package installed ?
