Ofcourse what kind of filter
you require is dependent on
your specific application.
(type and high pass low pass
or band pass etc.)
Ie. butterworth is generally
preferred where pass and stop
band quality is more important
than transition sharpness.
Think of this as your
eyeglasses, do you need to
see far away or close or say
is ribbles in pass or stop band
ie. astigmatism is important
for that application or not.
You can get an idea for what
kind of filter is suited to the
specific application from;

Take a look at the paragraph
under the picture in that section.
