welcome to octave!
You can use legend labels in the FMT argument of plot(). You only get
entries in the legend if a label is given, e.g.
figure(1);
clf();
hold on;
t = 0:0.1:10;
plot(t,2*sin(t),'r+;Sinus;'); % legend entry
plot(t,3*sin(t),'b+'); % no legend entry
plot(t,2*cos(t),'r-;Cosinus;');
plot(t,3*cos(t),'b-');
