embedded octave

Hello,

I embedded octave in an application for linux using 
the command in the doc and everything works perfectly. 
Problems arise when I try to do the same under Windows and Mac. 

For example under Windows mkoctfile  --link-standalone-alone ....
creates an executable, but 'libcruft' is not found when running 
the program. 

I found a directory libcruft in the Octave distribution. 
Does it mean that embedding Octave requires compiling the 
sources beforehand or is it possible to install the missing 
library?
