Kubuntu 9.04.  
I have installed Octave through the KPackageKit installer. 
I didn't know it could depend on these things.

The answer I get from Octave to the command "help zoom" is:

zoom ...
  Compatibility function; does nothing
/usr/share/octave/packages/plot-1.0.5/zoom.m

searched the archives for the "zoom" keyword?
