Subplots with no padding

I would like to create a tight subplot as follows:

The border of each subplot abuts the next with no padding or gap in between. In particular, this 
means no labels on the axis ticks of the interior subplots.

Labels on the y axis ticks of the far left subplots, and labels on the x axis ticks of the bottom 
subplots. Note the range of the y axis and x axis are all identical.

A title for each subplot where the legend might go in the north-east corner of 
the plot.

Also, increase the size of the figure to fill a 8.5"x14" page.

Any suggestions?
