So, it looks like you built from source? It's not obvious to me what's 
going wrong here, but the octave and octave-forge in Fedora Extras don't 
cause this problem for me. I would suggest trying those (after cleaning 
out what you already have installed), which can be installed on a FC4 
system with the command "yum install octave-forge".
