| Can I use octave as algebraic manipulator?
| For example, can I make with octave the following:

| a x^2+b x+c=0

| and octave responses a solution as a function of a,b c?
|
| Thanks in advance,

There is some information about the various options for symbolic algebra
with Octave on the wiki: http://wiki.octave.org/wiki.pl?CategorySymbolic.
However you may be better off using a symbolic algebra tool directly if
you only want to perform algebraic manipulations.
Have a look at GiNaC: http://www.ginac.de.
