matlab code conversion

Hi!

I'm trying to convert some matlab code. I get an error parsing that: 


parse error near line 64 of file /home/me/somefunc.m

>>> a_struct.name=fileroot(max([end-20 1]):end);
                                    ^

error: `somefunc' undefined near line 2 column 1
error: evaluating index expression near line 2, column 1

Any ideas? Thanks.
