You can install install Hurd on qemu under GNU Linux. See the following for more info :
http://www.numenor.art.pl/balrog/hurd/ ------> a prebuilt qemu hd image ready to run
http://hurd.gnufans.org/bin/view/Distrib/HurdOnQEMU -------> how to do the above yourself
Also, if you follow Richard's advice and use BIOS to put SATA under IDE compatibilty mode the don't forget to limit your RAM to less the 768MB.

i want to install HURD on my hardware. then i checked this: http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/help-hurd/2007-04/msg00001.html this is my hardware: AMD64 Athlon 2800+ ASUS K8V-MX motherboard with VIA K8M800 and VIA 8237 vhipsets Serial-ATA 80GB hard-disk (Seagate) 2 x 512 MB 400 MHz RAM i have Serial-ATA.
