GRUB is not supposed to crash on a non-existent file (nor any other 
circumstances). Also, once reaching the first menu entry section, 
grub.cfg usually only contains menu entries, whose instructions are 
executed only when the menu entry is selected. It would really be 
interesting to find out which section causes the reboot.
