Holger, There are other functions that will, including copy-region-as-kill (backwords-(or-forwards)?)?-kill-(word|line|paragraph|sexp|region) kill-(append|comment|kill-entire-line|forwards-chars|new|rectangle|region|sentence|sexp|word) x-mouse-kill and probably some others.
