gcc version 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5488)

i686-apple-darwin9-gcc-4.2.1 (GCC) 4.2.1 (Apple Inc. build 5564)
has the same problem.

I successfully build with the same compiler in april 2009

It builds without "inline".

In the meantime I have updated the compiler to

gcc version 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5493)
gcc version 4.2.1 (Apple Inc. build 5574)

Neither version compiles the "inline" version.
