the USB ID is just for a plain vanilla USB to serial chip. A quick
google finds the manual:

It is a SiRF Star III chip. Nice in its day.

Neither, it is a firmware error in the GPS chip. Caused by
GPS Week Number Rollover.

Just look at your NMEA.

No need. Almost all GPS receivers have this bug. Often fixed by
a firmware update, but since SiRF was bought, no chance of that.

Qualcomms record for support is very bad.
What version gpsd do you have? Newer versions should correctt the
date for you.
