Hard or soft?

I have an old usb-gps receiver labelled navibe GM-720 (see below for lsusb ID). Together with gpsd and gpspipe it seems to work properly with one exception: today (2024-03-27) the date is reported as 2043-11-11, time of day is, however, correct.
Could this be a software error or is it a hardware problem?
Is there any tool I could use to find out?
Thanks in advance for any tip
Håkan
