What gpsd, and u-blox, calls status, is what NMEA calls the NMEA mode
field.  That should be present in GPVTG, GPGLL, GPRMC, and other
NMEA messages.

Just one of many things the Qeuctel GNSS receivers get wrong.  gpsd code
is littered with Quectel "Querks" workarounds.
