Matrix is federated, like XMPP, like e-mail, like Mastodon.
Like all federated technologies it will only start doing
a decent job servicing a large chunk of humanity when
there is a large corporate offering running in the cloud.
In 1995 I thought federation was the future. Since 2009
I've been looking into distributed systems. Because I've
worn the wrong t-shirt already. Unfortunately 95% of
humanity are still out to buy that t-shirt.
