[gnue-sb-discuss] Roadmap

Ok folks. Get out your traveling pillow. Grab a bladder buster. Take
your shoes off and hop on the GNUe Caravan. We are going on a "Road
Trip".

The only problem is we need a map. The good news, we get to make our own. ;)

Where are we today?

Today we have basic contact management, that started as a sample for forms
and is mostly compatiable with GNUe DCL's new contact structures. We have
the inkling of a start for 'product/item' management. This was the start
of requirements for a particular client. The next logical step was to be
Inventory. Then back-end order handling and shipping. Working on into
Invoicing, purchasing and financials.

We have a new game in town, Top Sew, an enterprise looking to implement
GNUe-SB and better yet willing to contribute to it. We also have two or
more interested parties that have followed GNUe and looking to make the
jump, hopefully with GNUe SB. I would like to rewrite a roadmap.

I think products is still a decent start as it is more simplistic and is a
good building block for many of the pieces to come (inventory, invoicing,
etc)

I want to use IRC (#gnuenterprise) heavily for conveying ideas along with
this list. I also want to get DCL up and running (or piggy backed on
GNUe's DCL) for GNUe SB items and really provide an easy way for people to
be involved. What I hope to avoid is debating long drawn out
implementation details instead of doing work. ;) Read: I would rather
refactor than over design. GNUe "proper" (what I will call a full GNUe
implementation opposed to smallbiz) is the place to have pie in the sky
debates on implementation details.

In short, GNUe SB will not do everything and work for everyone. GNUe
proper will fit that role. Rather GNUe SB will probably be highly geared
towards American companies and will go with the concept of KISS. Building
the blocks then stacking them.

To anyone on the list (if there is more than just me), I look forward to
working with you to get this started! I think GNUe SB will be an outlet
to show the power of the GNU Enterprise Application Framework that the
GNUe team has worked so hard to make available.

Happy Hacking,

Derek Neighbors
