1. The input FITS images doesn't need to have any data (a keyword-only
extension is also enough)

2. I found a bug that I had mistakenly introduced in Sachin's code a few
commits ago on this branch (I had mistakenly changed a few of Sachin's 'k++'s
to '++k's!). This may fix the problem with the absurdly large and small values
that you found.
