i have some problems using wireless (testing squeeze & LXDE on a old
laptop): wicd-client do not displays the tray icon, wpasupplicant
freezes the CPU... so I was asking to investigate...

anyway: wicd in lenny-backports is 1.6.2.2-1~bpo50+1, in squeeze
(and sid) is 1.7.0+ds1-5

probably, if i downgrade the wicd release i would have troubles with
dependencies... hum... now i will try using scripts and no graphical
manager...
